Message from the President & CEO: David H. Howes, MD

At Martin’s Point, we are dedicated to building strong communities by improving the lives of thousands of people through our high-quality, primary care-based services and health plans. We are also dedicated to making significant and lasting improvements to the health care system.

The way our nation delivers health care has changed dramatically over the past 20 years. Costs have increased and are being spread across more specialists and procedures. More people suffer from chronic diseases. Fewer doctors have entered primary care. An unfortunate consequence of these changes has been less time and access for patients to develop trusted and valued relationships with their doctors and other clinical professionals.

Martin’s Point is working hard to make improvements that will help shape needed changes in care. At the heart of our vision is a commitment to providing patients and members with the best possible health care experience, while simultaneously improving overall health and managing costs.

Our goal is to improve how patients experience health care by bringing back the feeling of personalized, comprehensive care from a small doctor’s office into the larger group practices. At the same time, we want to incorporate today’s cutting-edge technology to increase efficiency in care. In order to change the way care is delivered, we must also change the way it is paid for – an undertaking that needs to support improving both the quality and overall cost of care.

I feel so privileged to lead Martin’s Point on this important journey to inspire meaningful improvements in the health care system. I can’t think of a more important journey because success means that we will make communities better and stronger and we will improve the quality of life for the people who live there. We need to improve how people experience care in a way that is financially sustainable.
